When planning your trip back to the Boston area after a nice turkey dinner, take a few minutes to check out Boston.com for useful travel information. Additionally, here are some tips for air, road and rail travel:
Tips for the Air:
§ Arrive early
§ Travel light
§ Print out boarding passes ahead of time
§ Check for delays
§ Remember your ID
§ Don't stress
Tips for the Road:
§ Know when to go (The Wednesday before, and Sunday after, Thanksgiving are usually the busiest times on the road; avoid these travel times.)
§ Bring snacks
§ Check weather conditions
§ Rest up for the drive
Tips for the Rails:
§ Know when to go (The Wednesday before, and Sunday after, Thanksgiving are usually the busiest times on the road; avoid these travel times.)
§ Know the baggage policy
§ Check for schedule updates online
§ Buy ticket ahead of time
One other tip I thought to mention for traveling by road is to make sure there is extra oil, water, jumper cables, window washer fluid and things for the kids to do. I have had disasters in all of these areas that made me better prepared for things “down the road.” One trip was full of anxiety until we found a Cracker Barrel to buy some games and puzzles for the kids because we forgot to pack any. Now I bring the iPad and my phone and the kids watch TV with the help of my DISH Network employee Sling Adapter. We got ours free with a new subscription. They watch their favorite shows on the DVR or live broadcasts of Spongebob. It really has saved us a lot of headaches with what otherwise would be cranky fighting kids.
